Situation
David Loomis in Colorado was unhappy with his CustomKnifeTrader.com website so he contacted Webbering to do a complete website redesign and bring more functionality to the site.
Challenge
The original site was drab and not very attractive at all, even though the content was good.
Solution
The main problem with the site was the look so we worked hand-in-hand with David to get the look for the site that he wanted. We took some inspiration from the beautiful custom knives to create a logo using knives. We used one of the knife blade designs as the background for the title and added custom graphics for a rotating slideshow of knives with the knife maker name. We used one of the knife images to create custom navigation links with closed knife for unopened links and an open knife for the current open link page. We used a gradient background color for the header / navigation areas which gave a nice color change. We added a showcase that randomly displays a featured knife.
Since the original content provided a good base, we expanded on the content, added additional knives and knife makers, created profile information for each knife maker, added popup images for each enhanced image of the knives and added a 'New Arrivals' which randomly displays fifteen knives with links. We added tabbed content on the Shows page for Upcoming Shows and Previous Shows. We added a profile for David on the Contact Us page.
We setup PayPal Add-to-Cart buttons on David's account and added the links to each knife as well as each book. Finally, we added a Knives by Maker sidebar navigation that gives viewers the ability to jump directly to a favorite knife maker.
Result
David Loomis is very pleased with the professional look of his website with the featured knife showcase, new arrivals, and improved navigation as well as the expanded content including more custom knife pages.
